Cum Plena Est Aemula Soli
For the coming winter Pierre-Louis Mascia has envisioned a character trapped between reality and fantasy, a contemporary hero who takes refuge from the frenzy of reality, withdrawn inside a castle in the middle of a dense forest. Escape from mediocrity, fear of the different and incommunicability are the elements that are found in the mood of the new collection: beauty will eventually save the world.
The collection is nocturnal, introspective, intimate, with attenuated colors, as illuminated by the uncertain autumn light, the shadows of twilight. "Apologie de la nuit" as Pierre-Louis calls it. The story tells of a monastic solitude that brings closer to the work of the artist, whose job is to share beauty with the world while hiding from it. Far from the vivid light of an image conscious world, Pierre-Louis Mascia prefers a state of mind dominated by shadows and natural elements.
Seasonal inspirations: “Into the night” by Julee Cruise in the Twin Peaks soundtrack, the ballet “Les Indes Galantes” by Clément Cogitore, Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” in the French edition La Pléiade, “Frankenstein” by Mary W. Shelley, the break-dancer Diablo, Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, the Musée de Cluny in Paris, the dark paintings of Gianmarco Falcone, the rough objects of Ferreol Babin, the full moon.
